Senator Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, endorsed Aftab Pureval for Mayor of Cincinnati Sept. 1, 2021.

Pureval, the son of Indian and Tibetan immigrants, is the only candidate in the race with endorsements from Democratic elected officials.

He garnered the most number of votes in a six-way open bipartisan primary back on May 4.

In June, a number of top Democratic party officials came behind Pureval, as did a former mayor of Cincinnati Mark Mallory.

In May, several faith leaders also endorsed his mayoral run.

He and former Cincinnati Mayor David Mann are the two candidates running in the November 2 elections.

“Aftab Pureval is a leader who will fight for public safety, affordable housing, and to help Cincinnati recover from this pandemic. Aftab represents the future of Cincinnati and has a proven track record taking on corruption and improving city services,” Senator Brown is quoted saying in the press release. “He understands that the Dignity of Work is not just a slogan, it’s how we govern — that’s why I’m proud to endorse Aftab Pureval for Mayor of Cincinnati,” Sen. Brown added.

Over the course of his campaign, Pureval has released an economic plan for the city, and this Sept. 17, he announced a Cincinnati Criminal Justice Plan.

“I’m honored to be endorsed by Senator Sherrod Brown,” said Pureval. “Senator Brown has spent his life fighting for an Ohio that works for everyone. I’m ready to follow his example as we build a Cincinnati where prosperity is shared in every corner.”

Aftab Pureval is the first Democrat ever elected as the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts in over 100 years. In that position, he is credited with dealing with issues of nepotism and cronyism.

Before running for public office Pureval worked at Procter & Gamble.

He earned his law degree at the University of Cincinnati, and is the recipient of the  has NAACP Theodore Berry Award for Service. He was also recognized by the Business Courier as one of their 40 under 40.

Born and brought up in Southwest Ohio, Pureval lives in Clifton with his wife Whitney and their one year old son Bodhi. His wife, a doctor, is a frontline worker who treats COVID patients.
