TiE-NJ celebrates 15 years, Dr. Suresh U. Kumar takes over as President

The Indus Entrepreneur- New Jersey Chapter, an organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship, celebrated its 15th anniversary in Piscataway June 9, 2023, at a dinner attended by more than 300 members and community leaders from various non-profit organizations.

Organizers called it a ‘milestone event’ that “marked a significant moment in our journey and set the stage for an exciting future of empowering entrepreneurs, creating wealth, and making a positive impact within our community,” a press release said.

Diya Matthews, board member of TiE-NJ and Partner at Chugh LLP, jumpstarted the event welcoming Navneet Chugh, the founder and CEO of Chugh LLP, a full-services law and accounting firm and key strategic partner of TiE globally.

Chugh delivered an opening speech filled with hilarious and witty anecdotes that entertained the audience. “It was an honor to be part of the TiE NJ 15th anniversary celebration. I want to acknowledge the exceptional leadership of Raman Kapur, the significant contributions of various non-profit organizations, and the diverse cultural associations that make our community thrive. It’s inspiring to witness the positive impact TiE has had on the global entrepreneurial ecosystem,” Chug is quoted saying in the press release.

Raman Kapur, the outgoing President of TiE NJ, was bestowed the position of Chairman to recognize his “exceptional leadership and contributions.”

“It has been an incredible journey leading TiE NJ for the past six years. I am honored to take on the role of Chairman and continue to contribute to the organization’s growth and success,” said Kapur who is credited with shaping TiE NJ “into the thriving organization it is today,” the organization said.

Kapur welcomed incoming President Dr. Suresh U. Kumar, referring to him as a “Renaissance Man”, because of his breadth of experience as a serial entrepreneur, professor, mentor, angel investor, non-profit leader, and author. He also said, “I am confident that under Dr. Kumar’s leadership, TiE NJ will reach new heights of impact and empower even more entrepreneurs.”

Dr. Kumar thanked TiE-NJ for the opportunity to assume the role of President and acknowledged the contributions of Kapur, Chugh and others. He highlighted the qualities of all great leaders, what he termed the 5Cs: Charisma, Character, Competence, Compassion, and Courage. He emphasized the importance of unity among various South Asian community organizations in NJ.

“I am truly honored to lead TiE NJ and continue the mission of empowering entrepreneurs. Together, we will build on TiE NJ’s strong foundation and create a thriving ecosystem that empowers entrepreneurs to make a lasting impact in our community,” Kumar said.

Executive Director of TiE NJ Neetu Randhawa, recognized the Charter Members, Directors, SIG Chairs, and Advisors, and all volunteers who have contributed to the organization’s success.

TiE NJ describes itself as one of the fastest-growing chapters of The Indus Entrepreneurs (www.tie.org), which has 62 chapters operating in 14 countries and more than 30,000 members across the globe.
