TiE Boston to host annual gala December 2, recognize leaders in Business

The Boston chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs, TiE, one of the region’s important entrepreneurial organizations that connects entrepreneurs, executives, and venture capitalists, is scheduled to hold its annual gala will be held Dec. 2, 2022 at Sheraton Boston.

Organizers said the event offers an opportunity to network with fellow entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, charter members, sponsors and supporters. It will also include announcing prestigious awards to outstanding individuals, including the 2022 TiE Boston Lifetime Achievement Award and five awards to entrepreneurs and business executives in various categories.

David Friend, Wasabi Technologies CEO and Co-Founder,  will be the Keynote Speaker. A serial entrepreneur, Friend’s first company, ARP Instruments developed synthesizers used by Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and even helped Steven Spielberg for the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He went on to found or co-found five other companies: Computer Pictures Corporation, Pilot Software,  Faxnet, Sonexis, Carbonite, and now Wasabi.

“I am thrilled that David Friend is our keynote speaker at this year’s annual gala,” TiE Boston President Yash Shah, is quoted saying in the press release. “David’s entrepreneurial journey is highly inspirational and forges the current narrative of entrepreneurship. TiE Boston’s goal is to inspire and motivate everyone listening to start their own entrepreneurial journey or support others who are already on that journey. David’s keynote, his experience and his stories are bound to do just that.”

TiE Boston will honor Geeta Aiyer, Founder and CEO of Boston Common Asset Management with the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestigious award celebrates a person who has pushed the boundaries of what is possible. Aiyer combines over 30 years of experience in finance with a passion for environmental and social justice. Under her leadership, Boston Common has built a strong investment record and meaningfully improved the policies and practices of portfolio companies through impactful, proactive shareowner engagement. Ms. Aiyer was an early innovator in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing and remains an influential leader today.

“As a long-time resident of Boston and founder of three companies, I have long admired the leadership role of TiE Boston in building the entrepreneurial ecosystem in our community, said Aiyer. It is a very special privilege to be honored with their Lifetime Achievement award this year.”

TiE Boston will also honor winners in other categories:

Venture Capitalist of the Year: Jamie Goldstein, Founder and Partner, Pillar VC

Entrepreneur of the Year: Aman Narang, Co-President, Founder, COO and Director, Toast, Inc.

Award for Corporate Excellence: Rohit Prasad, SVP and Head Scientist, Amazon Alexa

Rising Entrepreneur of the Year: Uroš Kuzmanović, CEO and Co-Founder, BioSens8

TiE Boston President’s Award: Dr. Dinesh Patel, MD, Co-Founder, TiE Boston; Emeritus Chief of Arthroscopic Surgery at Mass General Hospital
