Suresh Wadkar launches radio program, Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le, on birthday

Veteran singer Suresh Wadkar marked his birthday with great fanfare—on this special day, he announced the launch of a new radio program, titled Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le, produced by Studio Refuel.

The birthday celebration saw his wife, Padma Wadkar, along with show anchor Kumarr and Studio Refuel’s CEO, India Chapter, Sachin Tailang and CEO, Dubai Chapter, Raman Chibber, present.

Wadkar, known for his soulful voice and timeless songs, took the opportunity to reminisce about his evergreen song, Ae zindagi gale laga le from the 1983 film, Sadma. He talked the song’s recording and enduring popularity. It was filmed on Kamal Haasan and composed by Ilaiyaraja.

Wadkar is venturing into radio for the first time, and expressed his excitement about this new journey. The radio show, which will be available by Diwali, promises to be a musical journey wherein he will reveal some unheard stories from his memories.

Anchor Kumarr shared that the show will feature Wadkar narrating sweet and sour experiences from his life, singing career, song recordings and musical shows. He will also share intriguing anecdotes from the music industry.

The launch event turned into a musical evening as Wadkar enchanted everyone by singing his hit songs. Upholding the Guru-Shishya (teacher-student) tradition, the singer runs Ajivasan, a music school where he trains students in singing.

Born on August 7, 1955, Suresh Ishwar Wadkar has sung in many languages, but chiefly in Hindi and Marathi. Among the songs he sang on that day were Megha re megha re (Pyaasa Sawan), Aur is dil mein kya rakkha hai (Imaandaar), Tumse milke aisa lagaa tumse milke (Parinda) and Chappa chappa charkha chale (Maachis).

Making his Hindi film debut under Jaidev in Gaman (1976) with the popular seene mein jalan, Wadkar went on to sing under Laxmikant-Pyarelal (with whom he got his major break in Prem Rog as well), Kalyanji-Anandji, Shankar(-Jaikishan), Naushad, Khayyam, Ravindra Jain, Usha Khanna, R.D. Burman, Anu Malik, Nadeem-Shravan, A.R. Rahman and other composers. His voice has been used for actors like Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Sanjeev Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna, Raj Babbar, Mithun Chakravorty, Vinod Mehra, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol and many others.
