After setting new records on its opening day and emerging as the Biggest Opener for a Hindi Film in 2024, Stree 2 continues its winning streak at the global box- office, amassing US$ 5.143M (Rs. 43.16 crore) in its opening weekend overseas. This impressive figure marks a powerful start for the horror-comedy sequel, which has captured audiences worldwide.

Since its release on August 15, with special select previews in India, US, and the UAE on August 14, Stree 2 has amassed a gross of Rs. 283 crore worldwide.

Here is the breakdown of its international earnings:

United States: 1.61mn USD

Canada: 750k USD

Middle East: 1.45mn USD

United Kingdom: £290k GBP

Australia: 694k USD

New Zealand: 211kN NZD

Rest of World: 370K USD

Stree 2’s success comes on the heels of an enthusiastic reception to its unique blend of horror and humor. Directed by Amar Kaushik, produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddocks Films with Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios and featuring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi, it features Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan and Tamannaah Bhatia in cameos. Stree 2 is poised for a successful theatrical run.

As Stree 2 continues its global rollout, expectations are high for sustained audience interest and additional milestones at the box office. With positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth, the film is well-positioned to continue breaking records.

The film has long eclipsed Munjya, the hitherto biggest hit of the year, which was also produced by Dinesh Vijan and written by Niren Bhatt with music by Sachin-Jigar, and has obviously shot past the hyped Kalki 2898 AD. Official figures suggested an all-time high domestic opening of Rs. 76 crore-plus (gross) and Rs. 64.8 crore (nett) domestically. The film crossed Rs. 100 crore on day 2 itself (including previews previous to Day 1) but has also had a record-smashing weekend in which it entered the Rs. 200-crore club, something unmatched to date.

Globally, the film is being distributed by Marudhar Entertainment Network. Meanwhile, even as its 5-day collections in India have crossed Rs. 242 crore, its co-releases, Khel Khel Mein (with Akshay Kumar heading an ensemble cast) and Vedaa (with John Abraham) are showing nett collections as low as Rs. 17.05 crore and Rs. 15 crore!

If the momentum continues—and there are no major releases until September 6!—the film will enter the list of the all-time biggest hits in the history of Hindi cinema.

Meanwhile, bollywoodhungama.com has revealed that the role of the main villain, Sarkata (headless one) has been essayed by Sunil Kumar. The Jammu-based Sunil is known as ‘The Great Khali of Jammu’ though, interestingly, he is taller than Khali. While The Great Khali is 7 feet, 1 inch tall, Sunil’s height is 7 feet, 6 inches. As per reports, he’s a constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police and he also indulges in wrestling. His ring name is ‘The Great Angaar’. Earlier, Sunil Kumar also played handball and volleyball, and he secured a job in the police department under the sports quota. He also participated in WWE Tryout in 2019.
