Sidharth Malhotra, Reema Kagti and Aryan Khan, attend screening of Konkona Sen Sharma’s short film, Chashma

Gubbara Entertainment held the screening of their short film, Chashma, on August 22 in Mumbai. The film brings together Konkona Sen Sharma and Ayan Khan, while Nitin Baid (editor, Gully Boy, Masaan et al) turns director. Varun Grover has written the screenplay. The short film also features Kabir Shah, Shafeen Patel, Shishir Sharma and Vijay Shrivastava.

The exclusive first screening of the film was attended by cast, crew, friends and family, and Sidharth Malhotra, Reema Kagti, Akanksha Ranjan Kapoor and Aryan Khan were among those present.

Nitin Baid, talking about his directorial debut, said, “I am embarking on a new project. I wanted to capture the emotions of boyhood and coming-of-age in a nation like India. To be able to channel my personal connection with the theme of the film and now to see it on the screen before me is a surreal experience. Having our friends from the industry come out to support the film for its very first screening was definitely an exciting experience.”

Konkana Sen Sharma shared her thoughts, saying, “I think that Chashma is a very sensitive film. It is told through these three kids. I hope that the people who watch this film will appreciate the nuances, the subtleties of the power dynamics between children. I think that’s something we’ve all been through and it’s something that shapes us and our future lives as well. This has been captured beautifully by Varun and Nitin and I hope that people will appreciate that!”

Speaking about the film later, Sidharth Malhotra opined, “I think Chashma is a thought-provoking, very nuanced and well-made film. It is a very special film. I have known Nitin as an editor and he has surprised me with his directorial debut. It’s a film with a lovely heart and a lovely message. Everyone should definitely watch it!”

Chashma explores boyhood, identity and the pursuit of personal truth. The film literally and metaphorically gives a new lens to the journey of self-discovery and the challenges faced by a young boy.
