Shardaben Haribhai Patel: A Life of Love and Legacy

Chicago, IL – On February 23, 2025, the Rana Reagan Banquet Hall in Carol Stream, Illinois, was filled with family, friends, and community leaders gathered for the Prarthana Sabha to honor the life of Shardaben Haribhai Patel. Fondly known as “Baa”, she was the backbone of her family and an unwavering support to her husband, Haribhai Patel, President of Bhartiya Senior Citizens of Chicago.

Shardaben’s sudden passing on February 12, 2025, left a profound void. She dedicated her life to serving others, ensuring no guest left her home without food or comfort. Her love extended beyond family, creating a welcoming space for all. Even at 79, she remained active—lifting her signature pink dumbbells, walking to the library, and maintaining her modern yet graceful presence.

Her marriage to Haribhai Patel was a testament to love and partnership. While he gained recognition in the business community, she remained his silent yet powerful support, pushing him to succeed while keeping their family closely knit. Their playful relationship, from rushed departures to Costco trips, highlighted a lifetime of love and understanding.

Her impact extended beyond family—her passing reunited her six grandchildren from Chicago, London, and India within 24 hours in her hometown, a testament to her unbreakable bonds. She housed guests for months, celebrated every milestone, and cared for others until her last day.

The Prarthana Sabha was a deeply emotional gathering, attended by distinguished figures, including Mr. Sunil Shah, founder of FIA, and organized with grace by Bhavnaben Modi and the Manpasand team. In India, Mr. Mafatbhai Patel, Founder & CEO of Patel Brothers, attended her funeral, paying his respects.

Speaking at the event, Haribhai Patel shared, “I always told others that time heals sorrow, but today, I realize that life without one’s partner is unimaginable.” His words resonated deeply, capturing the pain of unexpected loss.

As the gathering came to a close, it was clear that Shardaben’s legacy will live on in the love she shared and the lives she touched. Her warmth, strength, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
