Japan Thakar, owner of River Comics and Snehal Parikh, executive director of Sight Saving Academy of India (SSAI) on Dec. 22, 2020 donated over 100 brand new and unboxed toys and $1000 to The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, according to a press release from the organisers.

The organizers believed virtual toy drives were more important than ever this past holiday season due to the economic hardships brought about by COVID-19 and difficulties in physical collection drives.

The toy drive was organised in honor of the work being done at SKN South Asian Diabetes Center at Saint Peter’s University Hospital.

Under the leadership of Dr. Meena Murthy, director of SKN South Asian Diabetes Center, the collection drive ran from Dec. 1 to Dec. 21.

Delta Sigma Iota and Delta Phi Omega, two Greek organizations with chapters based at Rutgers University were also involved in the drive, according to the release.

Jim Choma, vice president for catholic mission and chief development officer of Saint Peter’s University Hospital, Dr. Murthy, and Kristal Neal, child life coordinator accepted the donations on behalf of the hospital.
