Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-IL, recently led the Select Committee in adopting a bipartisan set of economic proposals.

The proposals provide a strategy that could help drive the economic and technological competition with the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

The report, which includes key recommendations for building collective economic resilience with allies and partners, investing in workforce development, and revamping the immigration process, was passed by an overwhelming bipartisan majority of the Select Committee.

“I’m proud of our Select Committee’s bipartisan economic report, which will provide a roadmap to ensuring we win the economic and technological competition with the PRC in the long-term,” Krishnamoorthi is quoted saying in the press release. “Part of that means expanding job training opportunities and working with our allies and partners to mutually strengthen our economies. By embracing the best talent from around the world, we will create new opportunities for immigrants in our country while building a strong and diverse workforce.”

Krishnamoorthi said he hopes to turn these bipartisan policy recommendations into legislation “swiftly.”

Among those reforms, the ones that affect Indian immigrants most include the demand for establishing — a work authorization program for foreign nationals from partner countries that are part of Five Eyes, the Quad and select NATO countries who have a background in critical and emerging technology and are working on projects funded by the Department of Defense or other national security agencies.
