Cannes Film Festival is Mecca to some of the best minds in world cinema. Amidst the on-going Cannes hysteria, multilingual actress Regina Cassandra (best known pan-India for the landmark series Rocket Boys caught up with British Academy Award winner Emily Watson at the American Pavilion.

Sharing a sliver of their conversation, Regina spoke about the advice Emily Watson gave her. She said, “Emily spoke about finding a mentor. She came into the industry thinking it would be like a sisterhood, but it actually was a big competition, which was very surprising to her. But she also said you have to be thick-skinned, keep the noise out and focus on you. And you have to find the right balance between keeping stuff out and keeping stuff in. You need to be a part of the competition but you also need to be vulnerable, which is important.”

At the Cannes Film Festival, Regina attended the exclusive world premiere of Rocketry: The Nambi Effect at the prestigious Palais des Festivals, and was also spotted with Neerja Bhatia, Director – CII at India Pavilion.

A Tamil actress who also has done Kannada and Telugu films, Regina’s only tryst with Hindi cinema so far has been a supporting role in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga (2019). She now does several regional films and a Hindi series, Farzi on Amazon Prime Video starring Shahid Kapoor and Disney+Hotstar’s Hawks. Last month, the trailer of her film, Fingerprint S2, was also released.

So we wonder why, if Regina has had a successful career over 18 years (her debut film released in 2005 when she was just 14!), does she need to talk about a mentor!
