Rangla Punjab 2023 – Sold out event is window to thriving Punjabi culture in Chicago

Chicago: ‘Rangla Punjab’ the flagship event of the Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (www.PCSChicago.org) held March 25, 2023, at MAC Auditorium, College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, was as usual, a massive show of the culture and vibrancy of Punjabis.

More than 1000 people attended what is now the 29th year of this event.

Nearly 260 children and adults from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin performed Punjabi folk dances Bhangra and Giddha, played music, and socialized.
Dr. Bhupinder Singh Saini, former Chairman and founder of Advanced Pain Management, SC with several locations in Wisconsin, was the chief guest.

“Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago volunteers train and provide a platform to the local Punjabi artists to nurture and grow their talents. New generation from age 6 years to seasoned artists 60 and over participated,” PCS Chairman Nick Balwinder Singh, a businessman, is quoted saying in a press release. , a well known and respected businessman in the area.

Organizers see it as a way to bring Punjabi heritage to second-generation youth. “This indeed is a great community building effort,” said Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal, the PCS president, ” I am proud of our most hardworking, dedicated, best ever PCS team,” he added.
The program ended with a raffle drawn out of the attendees ticket stubs. An I-Pad, I-Pad Mini, and an Apple watch were the prizes given to the winners, Mrs. Mangat, Harjit Singh Gill, and Lakhbir Singh Sandhu.

PCS Vice president Manjeet Singh Bhalla set the ball rolling for the event which began with the national anthem and the Gurbani.

The evening event featured 28 performance ranging from  Punjabi folk dances Bhangra and Giddha, Punjabi folk music and songs and an hilarious comedy skit.

The program was emceed by Ransher Singh Kaler, Seerat Kaur Kaler, Gurleen Kaur, Manpreet Kaur Bhalla and Simran Kaur Bhalla.
Dance items were prepared Karen Parmar, Mandeep Kumar, Kiran Bhalla, Aman Kular, Harjit Kaur, Sanya Mahajan, Gia Dhaliwal, Jasmine Hunjan, Raj Dhaliwal, Payal Virdi, Kawaljeet Kaur, Navjodh Singh, Neha Sobti, Navtej Sohi, Avneet Aujla, Ravinder Dhanesar, Gurmukh Bhullar, Sonny Judge, and Sukhvir Kaur Dhillon.
Punjabi songs were rendered by Soumay Kambli and Mitesh Kambli. Mona Bhalla Sang and performed excellently on the Punjabi folk song “Latthe Di Chadar Utte Saleti…Rang Maiya”

Navtej Singh Sohi and Rajinder Singh Mago provided backstage support to the performing teams, emcees and the stagehands. Jigerdeep Singh Dhillon provided support to the sound and light technicians and arranged security.
Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal, Bhinder Singh Pamma, Vick Singh, Parvinder Singh Nanua, and Jasbir Singh Palia helped with the awards distribution.
On the front end Balwinder Singh Girn, Mohinderjit Singh Saini, Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, managed ticket sales, Paramjot Parmar managed ushers, and security, Harwinder Paul Lail coordinated VIP dinner catered by Singh’s Kitchen.
Gurlal Singh Bhattal managed the finances, Vick Singh managed food for the participants and volunteers.

Balwinder Girn and Bikram Sohi brought water bottles and provided back end support. Parvinder Nanua, Iqbal Singh Saini, Gurmit Singh Dhillon, Gurpreet Singh Girn, Yadwinder Singh Grewal and several other volunteers lined up the performing teams in order.
Manjeet Singh Bhalla managed the vendors booths in the lobby, which included an exhibit by Mridu Chandra to raise funds to make a documentary film about California Congressman Dalip Singh Saund, a Sikh who was the first Sikh, Indian, or Asian American U.S. Congressman in the history of the nation. Navtej Singh Sohi and Rajinder Singh Mago provided backstage support to the performing teams, emcees and the stagehands.

The Indian Consulate in Chicago presented plaques to the outgoing PCS President Parvinder Singh Nanua and outgoing Chairman Kevindeep Singh Atwal for their excellent services. Mago introduced India’s Consular Press Ranjit Singh to the audience.
Many parents congratulated and expressed their appreciation for PCS for continuing to provide opportunities, free coaching and a platform to keep their kids connected with our Punjabi culture. “PCS apologizes to all those community members who  could not get in and had to return from the venue because the event was sold out in advance. We recommend that next time please purchase your tickets for this most popular event in Midwest USA, Rangla Punjab well in advance,” said Mohinderjit Singh Saini PCS Board of Governors.
