Rajkumar Hirani to produce OTT show with Vikrant Massey

Not many are aware that when mentor Vidhu Vinod Chopra had decided to produce and direct 12^th Fail, writer-director and producer Rajkumar Hirani had not only read the script but also recommended the name of actor Vikrant Massey for the role. Massey gave Chopra an audition he loved, and was on.

Now that the film is a hit and has completed 100 days (as of yore) in movie halls with a respectable occupancy even as it is already streaming (this is a very rare case!) on OTT, nothing succeeds like success and Massey has been offered a role by Hirani himself.

The new venture marks Hirani’s debut on OTT, though he will only produce the series. The web series revolves around cyber-crime, and Massey will play a cyber-crime expert. The show is directed by Amir Satyaveer Singh, who has assisted Hirani.

Hirani admits that certain stories “demand a long format approach rather than being condensed into a film”. Asked by the media if he would ever direct a series, he answered that the story decides the medium, be it television, big-screen or OTT. Hirani will be the showrunner for the series, which is Massey’s fifth venture on the web after Mirzapur, Broken but Beautiful, Made in Heaven and Criminal Justice. Some of Massey’s films as well have been released only on OTT, like Forensic, Ginny Weds Sunny, Love Hostel and Gaslight.
