Renowned economist Raghuram Rajan, the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, recently took up residence as the inaugural Rothman Faculty in Residence at Chicago Booth’s Robert Rothman, ’77, London (Rothman) campus.

Rajan gave a keynote on campus at a launch event on April 18, 2023, to celebrate the school’s 125th year, addressing more than a 150 students, alumni, and partners who attended in person and hundreds more virtually.

Throughout his residency, Rajan will work to build partnerships with universities, professional organizations, and companies, further engage with students, alumni, and media, and expand the impact of Chicago Booth within London and the EMEA region, a May 9, press release from the University said.

Elizabeth O’Neill, executive director of Chicago Booth’s Rothman London Campus, said Rajan’s “thought leadership, research, and experience at the highest levels of financial management continue to influence global society, and his academic prowess will serve as a real inspiration to our students studying in London.”

The school’s Rothman Faculty in Residence program was created to allow one of Chicago Booth’s prestigious faculty members to engage with the school’s new London campus for an extended period, as well as with Booth alumni, the broader community, and partners.

Rajan is the former chief economist and director of research at the International Monetary Fund (2003-2006), the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (2013-2016), and has been a faculty member at Chicago Booth since 1991. In 2016, he was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

The Rothman campus is located in the heart of London’s business community at One Bartholomew Close, Barts Square, and houses the school’s Executive MBA Europe Program, non-degree Executive Education classes, conferences, and seminars.
