The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) sweeping victory in the recent Delhi elections sparked celebrations among the Indian diaspora in Chicago by the Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP leader Rekha Gupta assumes leadership as Delhi’s new Chief Minister.

Community leaders, party supporters, and guests attended the event. Dr. Najma Heptulla, former Deputy Speaker of the Rajya Sabha and former Minister of Minority Affairs, was the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Heptulla underscored the significance of democracy in a diverse nation like India.

“The only way for us to thrive is by upholding democracy, especially given our diversity in languages, cultures, and religions—even our food and clothing,” she according to an account by one of the attendees Jayanti Oza. She also criticized the outgoing administration of the Aam Admi Party
