SelectChef 2021, a brainchild of Michelin Star Chef and humanitarian Vikas Khanna and the non-profit organization, Vibha, held its finalists’ cooking event Oct. 23, 2021, in New York. HSBC USA was the Title sponsor of the event.
Apart from the competitors, the event was attended by HSBC bank’s executive management including VP General Counsel Mark Steffenson, Regional Head Drew Douglas, Director Analytics Sainath Gajendran, and NRI Lead Jaspreet Basetty.
The goal of SelectChefs is to bring chefs and foodies back to their roots, treasuring and preserving the age-old grandmother and family recipes for future generations.
Of the many who submitted secret recipes, Chef Khanna personally selected 3 winning ones, a press release from Vibha said.
The weather miraculously cleared up minutes before prime time and the 3 finalists Geeta Gwalani, Deepa Nayak and Bhushan Patil were briefed by Chef Khanna on the rules of the contest. Till then all these winners knew was that they were cooking with Chef Khanna in New York City on October 23.
They were now expected to prepare a time-bound dish.
After a great friendly competition, the winner of SelectChef 2021 was Deepa Nayak.
Vibha volunteers worked tirelessly to making this event successful, organizers said. The totally volunteer-driven organization works on projects that help educate children in need. To date, according to the organization, they have reached 2.3 million children since 1991.
