Mismatched 2 is an improvement on season one

This is a late review as I felt significant trepidation after watching Season 1 of Mismatched in November 2021. That content did open doors for a Season 2, but other than having some good performances and moments, and especially from midway, it had lost its moorings for me.

However, a reliable colleague informed me that Mismatched 2 was worth looking at, and being recently inundated with crime (in all its canvas) series, I decided to take a dekko at it, as it is termed in Indian slang.

Yes, the second season was considerably better, and was a breezy and event-filled watch. Of course, it was again suffused with ex-es (as in spouses or lovers) and ‘Why?’s, ex-pletives, s-ex (including the ubiquitous-on-web homosexual variety) and so on, apart from a heavy dosage of Apps-related jargon.  The school is about designing Apps, see?

A young rich guy tormented by an ex-girlfriend’s return into his life coupled with his mother’s second marriage, an aggrieved husband, a stolen App, a betrayal, a student in love with her teacher, a shrink who advises a man who is more than just physically traumatized by an accident, a teacher who keeps a keen eye on his students beyond academics—Mismatched 2 has them all. Relationships spiral up and descend into a rapid vortex of hurt, grief, anger and negativity.

Akarsh Khurana and Nipun Dharmadhikari leave no stone unturned to go on a trail of every kind of emotion and the result is a potpourri that is fairly riveting but not the stuff of which classics are made.

The script, though mainly engaging, needlessly goes into expletive zone and that dilutes attention from the performances, most of which are consummate. Prajakta Koli as Dimple, Rohit Saraf as Rishi, Vihaan Samat as the NRI Harsh, Taaruk Raina as Anmol, Sanjana Sarathy as Sanskriti, Devyani Shorey as Namrata, Muskaan Jafferi as Celina and Rannvijay Singha as Professor Siddharth steal the acting honors. Akarsh Khurana as the shrink is an interesting character and essay as well.

Overall, I would rate the series as just about an average watch that could have vastly improved if all the F-words and expletives had been beeped out.

Rating: *** (Just About)
