For a film expected to be the year’s (at least) biggest blockbuster, Singham Again got a befitting venue for its grand trailer launch—the Grand Theatre at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC)—on October 7.

The cast of the film has been a matter of excitement for movie buffs and the film is now not just packaged as a modern-day retelling of Ramayan but also as a Diwali gift from “Rohit Shetty and Team” (as is always seen in every Rohit film’s credit roll!).

Co-produced by Jio Studios (the film production wing of Mukesh Ambani) and Devgn Films in association with Cinergy and Rohit Shetty Productions, this third motion picture in the Singham franchise, is also the fifth and grandest film in Hindi cinema’s first Universe—Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe. It features Ajay Devgn with Simmba Ranveer Singh and Sooryavanshi Akshay Kumar in special appearances. They are joined by Tiger Shroff as ACP Satya and Deepika Padukone as Shakti Shetty a.k.a. Lady Singham. Ravi Kishan plays a politician. Kareena Kapoor reprises her Singham Returns role of Singham’s wife, Avni, who is kidnapped a la Sita. Also in the cast are Dayanand Shetty and Shweta Tiwari.

The baddies are Arjun Kapoor, as Danger Lanka (the counterpart of Raavan) and Jackie Shroff as Omar Hafeez, the Sooryavanshi villain who was never eliminated then.

The star-studded event, which began almost two hours after the time of the invite, was graced by everyone other than Jackie, Akshay and Deepika. While Jackie and Akshay sent prerecorded video clips wishing everyone as they were shooting out of town, Ranveer roared, “Mulgi zhaali re (A daughter is born to us)!” right at the beginning, setting the tone for the event. He explained that Deepika was busy looking after the baby, while he would be doing the night shift!

Ranveer also noted that this film marked the debut of his daughter in cinema as Deepika was pregnant during the film’s shoot! Stealing the show by talking more than anyone else on stage, he stated, “I am seeing the trailer for the first time, and I am quite overwhelmed. This is massy to the next level. My wife is very classy, but when she appears in a massy avatar, I feel the happiest. And it is only the master of mass Rohit Shetty who can get her to do this!”

Ranveer was also thrilled that he was working with Arjun Kapoor again—after the action-packed Gunday. “I am reuniting after 10 years with my aankhon ka taara, my dulaara (the apple of my eye) Arjun Kapoor. I am also sharing screen space for the first time with my man crush, Tiger Shroff! He is a complete package for he can dance like Michale Jackson and fight like Jackie Chan!” he said.

Tiger Shroff said that he is a big fan of everyone who is a part of the cast and expressed that being associated with the film was an “honor”. “I would really like to thank Ajay Devgn-sir and Rohit Shetty-sir for giving me this opportunity and thinking that I had the potential to play this role. I would also like to thank them for making me a part of this universe. I am a big fan of everyone standing on this stage. So, it is indeed a big honor for me to have received this chance of sharing the frame with each of them,” he said.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, the only actress on stage, declared, “Ramayan mein Sita na ho, aisa ho nahin sakta. Aur Rohit Shetty ki film mein Kareena Kapoor na ho, aisa ho nahin sakta (You cannot have Ramayan without Sita or a Rohit Shetty film without me)!” After the applause had gone down, she added, “Thank you to Rohit-sir and Ajay for always be calling me and for giving me such a special role in the male-centric cop verse! In this film, to represent Sita maa is a very big honour. Rohit and Ajay have always been my favourites. Working with everybody else—Tiger, Ranveer, Ravi Kishan-sir and my dear friend Arjun—was great. And of course, there’s Akki (Akshay) also in the film, who I love so much.”

While Rohit Shetty capsuled in brief the journey of Singham and his cop universe, it was Ajay Devgn who was the quietest and spoke least. Arjun Kapoor and Ravi Kishan spoke about how their dream of working in a Rohit Shetty film was realized magically.

Also present on stage was the diminutive powerhouse from Jio Studios, co-producer Jyoti Deshpande, who raved about the film and its makers.

P.S.: A little reliable bird has confirmed a cameo (on telephone) by Salman Khan in the film. Buzz is that they shot something that Salman wasn’t happy with and so a new sequence will be shot. And Rohit Shetty had expressed to me way back in 2015 that he had a wish of working with Salman!
