Mayor Sam Joshi and the Edison Township Council announced October 6, 2023, that the 2nd annual Diwali Festival, the largest of its kind in the nation, would be held in Papaianni Park, Saturday November 4, from noon to 9:30.

Among the highlights are music, fireworks, a kid’s zone, performances by local groups, food and retail vendors, as well as 65,000 lights, a press release from the Mayor’s office said.

A Diya lighting ceremony will take place at 7 pm, and the full schedule of activities will be published on the event’s Facebook page in the days leading up to the event.

This year’s special feature will be a special musical performance by Jay Sean, who will be headlining the event. There will also be additional performances by Prudhvi Chandra, a playback singer known for his work in the Telugu film industry,  and Véyah, an emerging Indian American singer.

Along with its annual Winter Wonderland, Edison’s Diwali Festival is funded entirely through

sponsorships, with the Township receiving over $200,000 in contributions for this year’s event, the press release said.

“We had an excellent turnout of over 15,000 people for last year’s inaugural Diwali Festival,” Mayor Sam Joshi is quoted saying in the press release. “Diwali is a major holiday for more than one-third of Edison residents, and I am proud to see it starting to become more widely celebrated. I invite everyone in our community to come out and celebrate our Township’s rich culture,” Mayor Joshi added
