Well ahead of his 2025 re-election date, Edison Mayor Sam Joshi has pushed his fundraising drive full steam ahead.

This January 2024 alone, Mayor Joshi raised $200,800 according to a press release from his office.

Joshi is seeking his second term as mayor and currently does not have an announced opposition candidate.

According to the campaign, Joshi’s fundraising haul came from mostly first-time donors. The overwhelming majority of funds came from minority business owners with roots or family in Edison.

A spokesman for Joshi’s campaign is quoted in the press release saying, the mayor’s team is “very confident that the campaign will have the resources needed to run a comprehensive town wide reelection campaign.”

Edison is noted for highly contentious elections. In 2022 the Edison mayor’s race was among the most hotly contested in the state. Joshi defeated Democrat Mahesh Bhagia in the primary and went on to defeat Republican challenger Keith Hahn, who lost two mayoral bids in both 2017 and 2022.
