Netflix’s Jewel Thief—The Heist Begins had its trailer launch at Snowball Studios. Produced by Siddharth Anand’s and Mamta Anand’s Marflix Productions, the film streams on Netflix from April 25.

A whirlwind of deception, danger and desire mark the film packed with style, speed and suspense. Starring Saif Ali Khan as Rehan Roy, a charming and cunning thief with wits as sharp as his moves, and Jaideep Ahlawat as Rajan Aulakh, a cool and calculated mafia boss, the heist thriller also has Kunal Kapoor as Vikram Patel, a relentless detective determined to catch the thief red-handed, and Nikita Dutta as Farah, who has ‘stolen’ Rehan Roy’s heart. As loyalties shift and motives blur, the race begins for the ultimate prize: the coveted African Red Sun jewel.

Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, and produced by Marflix Pictures in its streaming debut, Jewel Thief—The Heist Begins marks the first collaboration between Netflix and the production house founded by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand.

Speaking about the film, Siddharth said, “As filmmakers, we are constantly exploring new ways to tell stories that are stylish, compelling and surprising. With Jewel Thief, we wanted to create a cinematic universe that felt both classic and fresh — a modern-day heist with emotion and pace. This is our first streaming venture, and we couldn’t have asked for a better partner than Netflix to bring that vision to life. The story is slick, the characters are layered, and the scale is massive, so gear up for this action-packed adventure.”

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, director of Original Films, Netflix India, said, “Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins is an ode to the classic Hindi heist film — think big action, bigger adventure and all the blockbuster flair we love. It marks Siddharth Anand’s first direct-to-streaming production, and true to form, he’s bringing the full cinematic experience to Netflix — scale, style and all the swagger. The trailer drops a thrilling glimpse into a high-octane heist led by a powerhouse cast, each adding their own punch to the spectacle. We’re excited to partner with creators who consistently push the envelope to bring entertainment to audiences around the world.”

The film is written by Sumit Aroraa and carries the burden of an iconic title predecessor, the 1967 Jewel Thief that was directed by Vijay Anand, produced by Dev Anand, and featured Ashok Kumar, Dev Anand, Vyjayanthimala and Tanuja.

At the launch, there were “organized” (as in by the platform and host!) questions for the team on stage, and the delectable 5-second surprise was Jaideep Ahlawat’s dance moves (he has a song with Nikita). Nikita stated that this was her first role as a quintessential Hindi film heroine, while Kunal Kapoor stressed that his role was of an intense police officer, while normally he got roles in which he placated everyone around! No media questions were called for!

All the cast was asked what they found as standout qualities of their three co-stars, and of the lot, only Nikita sounded fully sincere as she spoke of Saif’s “wit and cool quotient”, Jaideep Ahlawat’s acting prowess and Kunal Kapoor’s “deep voice”.

Incidentally, the film marks the return of the Siddharth Malhotra-Saif Ali Khan team of Salaam Namaste and Ta Ra Rum Pum. Since then, among others, Siddharth has made three films with Hrithik Roshan (Bang! Bang!, War, Fighter).
