Iselin and Edison celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day with vibrant community event

Iselin, NJ – August 17, 2024: The bustling town of Iselin came alive with color, music, and patriotism as the local Indian-American community gathered to celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day. Organized by the Indo American Cultural Society of USA Inc., in collaboration with Man Making Group and Oak Tree Iselin Presbyterian Church, the event at 1295 Oak Tree Road showcased the vibrant culture and deep-rooted connections of the Indian diaspora.

The event drew a large crowd, with families, friends, and community members arriving to honor India’s independence and celebrate their heritage. As the sun reached its peak, excitement filled the air, with the community eagerly awaiting the day’s festivities.

Several distinguished guests were in attendance, underscoring the importance of the occasion. Among the dignitaries were Hon. Speaker of the State Assembly and Assemblyman from the 19th District, Craig Coughlin, Hon. Consul Brijendra Kumar, from the Consulate General of India, New York., Marlboro Council President Hon. Juned Qazi, Edison Councilman Hon. Ajay Patil, Hon. Daniel Harris, Deputy Executive Director of the Board of Education of Woodbridge, and WTRO Chairman John Vartric.

The event was also supported by prominent sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor Indira Daga of Allied Health Care and Grand Sponsors such as Mukund Thaker of Arista Care, Kunal Joshi, Jaswinder Kang, Mukesh Maid, and others.

The program kicked off with an array of live performances celebrating India’s cultural richness. Talented dancers and singers captivated the audience with traditional and Bollywood performances. The vibrant costumes and rhythmic movements transported everyone to the heart of India, while the patriotic songs performed by gifted artists stirred deep emotions among the crowd.

The highlight of the event was the hoisting of the Indian flag, a powerful symbol of freedom and democracy. As the tricolor flag fluttered in the breeze, the crowd joined in a collective moment of pride and reflection, remembering the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and the enduring values that bind the nation.

Congressman Frank Pallone from the 6th District and State Senator Owen Henry from the 12th District also attended, evidence of the strong ties between the Indian-American community and their elected representatives.

Following the flag hoisting, guests enjoyed a light lunch, providing an opportunity to connect and share stories. The event, a tradition for over 25 years, was a testament to the generosity and unwavering support of successful community members, who make such celebrations possible.

As the day came to an end, there was a collective sense of fulfillment. The event not only honored India’s independence but also reinforced the importance of passing on the torch of secular democracy to future generations, the press release said.

In closing, Pradip (Peter) Kothari, President of the Indo American Cultural Society of USA Inc., encapsulated the spirit of the day, saying, “God Bless India and God Bless America.”
