The last five years have seen big starry weddings. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone wed in 2018, while Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal tied the knot in 2021. But now, probably, we are set to see the biggest extravaganza among them all: The stage is set for the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt wedding, planned on a grander note than another high-profile shaadi, that of Ranbir’s late father Rishi Kapoor’s wedding with actress Neetu Singh in 1980.

(An aside: And very interestingly, both these young actresses who have tied the knot with other heroes have been Ranbir’s ex-es! And we know that at least Deepika and he continue to be friends!)

Ranbir Kapoor’s ancestral RK Cottage in Mumbai’s Chembur has been lit up for the festivities like Mehendi and Sangeet. Among the ceremonies was a special puja on April 13 to remember the late Rishi Kapoor, who passed away on April 30, 2020. Only close family members will attend this, and Subhash Ghai even gave a full-fledged story to a publication on how Ranbir and Alia are fulfilling Rishi’s dream with their marriage. He also recollected that he had played the dholak at Rishi-Neetu’s Sangeet. At that time, his film with Rishi, Karz, was under production.

From April 12, the wedding venues—RK Cottage and both the under-redevelopment Krishnaraj bungalow and Vastu (where Ranbir resides) on Pali Hill have been brightly decorated with lights. Another interesting aside: Sabyasachi designer outfits have been delivered at the wedding venue already, but Alia’s dupatta will be designed by Manish Malhotra.

From April 13, the festivities commenced with a puja ceremony. Latest reports state that Ranbir and Alia will take the vows at 3 p.m. on April 14 at Vastu. After their wedding, the couple will offer langar at a Gurudwara as part of the rituals. They will hold a reception only much later. The baraat will move from KrishnaRaj to Vastu, just a few buildings away.

With their first film together, Brahmastra: Part One inordinately delayed and now releasing this September 9, this will be a unique example of a star pair who signed their (so far) first film before they fell in love, and released it after they wed—a full four years after their relationship blossomed!

Apart from family—Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Karisma Kapoor on Ranbir’s side and Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan (parents of the bride), uncle Mukesh Bhatt, cousins Rahul Bhatt and Smilie on Alia’s, Ayan Mukerji and Karan Johar (makers of Brahmastra), writer Robin Bhatt, Akansha Ranjan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (who introduced Ranbir, his assistant director, as the lead in Saawariya 15 years ago and directed Alia in Gangubai Kathiawadi) will be reportedly among those present.

Ranbir will take a week’s break after his wedding before he resumes work on Animal. Alia will also shoot for Heart Of Stone with Gal Gadot next month in Hollywood.

Let us wish the latest star couple all the best for a happy married life.
