Plymouth, MA – Mohammed Wajid, a 28-year-old student from Hyderabad and an active member of the Telangana Youth Congress, tragically lost his life in a road accident on January 28 in Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Wajid was driving a semi-truck when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with a grain-hauling truck. The impact caused his vehicle to strike the rear of the grain truck, splitting it in half. The collision also led to a fire in nearby fields, which was later extinguished by emergency responders.

Wajid was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the grain truck, identified as Timothy Wilkin, escaped without injuries. The accident occurred at 12:42 a.m.

Originally from the Khairatabad area in Hyderabad, Wajid was an active leader in the Youth Congress and a member of the NRI Minority Congress Committee in the U.S. He had completed his master’s degree in Chicago and remained deeply involved in political activities.

Telangana Congress Secretary Mohammed Shahabuddin expressed his grief on social media, calling Wajid’s passing a significant loss to the Congress community. “Today is a sad day for me and our entire Congress family. We’ve lost a dear friend and colleague, Mohammed Wajid, in a tragic accident in the U.S. His passion, energy, and dedication to our organization will be deeply missed,” Shahabuddin wrote. He also shared a picture of Wajid with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, paying tribute to his contributions.

This incident follows another recent tragedy involving an Indian student in the U.S. Last month, 26-year-old Naga Sri Vandana Parimala, who was pursuing a Master of Science at the University of Memphis, lost her life in a road accident in Tennessee. She had moved to the U.S. in 2022 for higher studies.

The Indian student community and Wajid’s colleagues continue to mourn his sudden demise, remembering him as a dedicated leader and an active voice for youth in politics.
