Indian Seniors of Chicago celebrate 78th Indian Independence Day

More then 300 members of the community organization, Indian Seniors of Chicago, gathered Saturday August 10, 2024 at Mahalakshmi Hall of Manav Mandir, to celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day which falls on August 15.

The meeting was conducted by Hemant Modi.  Deepak Patel, Jayashree Patel, Daksha Parikh, Janakbala Shah, and Chandrika Shah sang Ganesha stuti and Shri Hanuman Chalisa. Treasurer Hemant Modi presented the accounts for the month of July and announced the names of the donors,

Those members whose birthdays fall in the month of August were wished on the occasion.

The Indian Independence Day celebrations were led by Arvind Patel, Kanti Patel and Navin Patel.  Arvind Patel dressed as an Indian soldier and sang a patriotic song.

Arvind Modi, Hemant Modi and Pushpa Parekh sang patriotic songs.

A parade was held led by Kanti Patel and  Navin Patel. About 40 members joined the parade with the national flag. As the parade entered the hall, the all members gave a standing ovation, and shouting of slogans like Jai Hind, Bharat Mataki Jai, Shahido Amar Raho, Vande Mataram.

Aarti of Lord Shri Krishna performed by Dr. Narsinh Patel, Sharda Shah

The Janmashtami religious program was conducted by  Hansa Patel, Jayshri Patel, Kokila Patel and  Daksha Parikh.  Daksha gave a short lecture on the importance of Janmashtami, followed by an aarti of Lord Shri Krishna. All the members participated in the Aarti. A Ras Garba program was held in accordance with Krishna Janmotsav in which many members participated.

Manu Shah gave the news of the untimely death of Rajendra Anjaria, a member of ISC, during which all those present stood up and observed two minutes of silence and prayed for Anjaria’s soul.

Yashaswini Desai gave information about Seva International organization requesting cooperation in the fundraising event to be held in Naperville on August 23, 2024.

The President of the organization Dilip Patel thanked the volunteers who helped in all the programs today. after that every one enjoyed delicious meal.
