NEW YORK – Prabhu Ramamoorthy, 34, has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 22-year-old female passenger on a flight from Las Vegas to Detroit.

According to FBI Agent Kyle Dodge, the victim was traveling Wednesday morning on a Spirit Airlines flight when she dozed off in her window seat and “woke up to a hand in her pants and noticed that her pants and shirt were unbuttoned.”

The woman added that the male passenger next to her, Ramamoorthy, “was shoving his fingers inside her vagina and vigorously moving them. When she fully woke up, the man stopped.”

According to a Smoking Gun report, the victim reported the attack to flight attendants right away and they later told federal agents that she was “visibly upset and was crying.”

Ramamoorthy was taken into custody upon landing.

Though he initially denied doing anything to the woman in a written statement, he later told agents that “he ‘might have’ undone the victim’s bra ‘while playing with it’ and that he ‘cupped her breast over her clothes.’”

Agent Dodge added that Ramamoorthy “‘indicated that he unzipped her pants part-way’ and ‘put his finger into her pants’ while acknowledging that he tried to digitally penetrate the sleeping woman.”

Ramamoorthy claimed that his attempt was unsuccessful.

Ramamoorthy has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse and is being held at the Wayne County jail.
