Indian-origin engineers host charity golf event in Chicago

Chicago: The American Association of Engineers of Indian Origin (AAEIO) recently hosted its Charity Golf event at St. Andrews Golf course in West Chicago.

The AAEIO said in a press release that it came up with this innovative plan to raise funds for its Charity wing.  This was the first such golf outing event for AAEIO (aaeiousa.org) which was a huge success and an enjoyable experience.

United States Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Illinois, a graduate of Princeton University Mechanical Engineering and Harvard Law, inaugurated Charity wing of AAEIO, described by organizers as the 4th pillar of the organization. The other three pillars already  in existence are Entrepreneurial Networking, Education, and Professional Opportunities for members.

President of AAEIO Gladson Varghese, Chairman of Charity wing Gulzar Singh, Co-Chairman Dr. Promod Vohra and Treasurer Rajinder Bir Singh Mago organized the event along with the Board and members.

The charitable causes AAEIO wants to support include help, guidance, and mentoring for engineering students.

The AAEIO’s main goal is to address the needs of engineers of Indian origin living in America, collaborate on technology and innovation, and leverage the group’s knowledge, expertise and experience.  The organization hopes to build an ecosystem which can support engineers in the US and in India, the press release said.

“Funds were raised, several engineers of Indian origin took life membership and also regular membership,” Varghese is quoted saying in the press release.

Many enthusiastic golfers lined up to tee off for a day of golf and an evening of fun, dinner and entertainment.

The AAEIO’s Board member and singer Madhura Sane, entertained the audience singing Bollywood songs accompanied by dances.

Alli Dhanuraj, Nitin Maheshwari, and Ajit Pant participated in the auction and registration.

Rep. Krishnamoorthi presented awards to the winners of the golf tournament and congratulated AAEIO board for organizing the event.

An auction of sports memorabilia was held to raise additional funds

The AAEIO is a non-profit organization which provides merit scholarships on the basis of need and funds engineering research assistantships on cutting edge technology to address global issues such as climate change.

There were several sponsors who participated to further the mission of AAEIO.
