Indian Consulate in Chicago celebrates 76th Republic Day of India

The Indian Consulate in Chicago held celebrations on the 76th Republic Day of India Jan. 26, 2025.

Consul General Somnath Ghosh unfurled the National Flag, followed by the rendition of India’s National Anthem. The Consul General then read out the address to the nation by the  President of India, Droupadi Murmu, highlighting the significance of Republic Day and the country’s priorities and achievements.

Consul General Ghosh spoke about the strong India-US strategic partnership and acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Indian diaspora in strengthening ties between the two nations. A cultural program was also held as part of the celebration.

Among the distinguished guests present were State Representative Dave Vella of the 68th District of Illinois, Alderwoman Shweta Baid and other elected representatives. Also in attendance was Najma Heptullah, former Vice Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha (the Upper House of India’s Parliament) and former Governor of the State of Manipur, along with prominent members of the Indian diaspora.

Cultural performances were part of the celebrations of India’s 76th Republic Day, held at the Indian Consulate in Chicago.
