Indian actors who lent their voices for international shows

From Om Puri and Nana Patekar to Akshay Kumar andr Tiger Shroff, here is a look at Indian talents who have taken on the challenge of dubbing for popular international productions.

We begin with the 2016 Walt Disney Productions’ The Jungle Book¸ which had an ensemble Indian cast of big names—Nana Patekar as the voice of the man-hating tiger Shere Khan, Om Puri as Bagheera, the black panther, Shefali Shah as the wolf Raksha who brings up the central character, Mowgli, Priyanka Chopra Jonas as the serpent Kaa and the late Irrfan Khan as Baloo the bear.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s enigmatic voice brought to life the iconic Disney character Maleficent. One of Hindi cinema’s global icons, Aishwarya joined the Disney Universe and lent her voice for the Hindi version, voiced by Angelina Jolie in the original of the much-awaited sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Incidentally, Aishwarya has acted in some Hollywood original films as well, including playing a ‘Mistress’ again, but a benevolent one, in Mistress of Spices!

Akshay Kumar in Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Akshay Kumar, known for his action-packed roles, lent his voice to the heroic Optimus Prime. The actor voiced the leader of the Autobots for the Hindi version of the blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Akshay took on the dubbing role for the sake of his son, Aarav, and did it for free, saying this was not a business deal and that he felt really lucky to have the opportunity.

Arjun Kapoor in The Boys 2

Arjun Kapoor has lent his voice to the Hindi dubbed version of Amazon Prime’s The Boys 2. Arjun lent his voice for the protagonist Billy Butcher, played by Karl Urban in the dark superhero series The Boys. Arjun’s Hindi voice brought a unique charm and an impressive arc to the character.

Bhuvan Bam in Takeshi’s Castle

The popular comic content creator and actor brought his unique charm to the Japanese game show, making the challenges even more entertaining for Indian audiences. Bhuvan is the voice of the new season of Takeshi’s Castle. The popular 1990s Japanese show made a comeback on Amazon Prime Video with Bhuvan’s character Titu Mama being the ‘funny’ narrator.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Parineeti Chopra in Frozen

The Chopra cousins joined forces to dub for the lovable sisters, Elsa and Anna, making the magical tale of Frozen resonate with Indian audiences. Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Parineeti Chopra dubbed for the Hindi version of the classic Hollywood animated movie. While Priyanka dubbed for Elsa, Parineeti lent her voice for Anna in the film that traces the characters’ pasts and pieces it together with their present.

Rajkummar Rao in The Boys

Rajkummar Rao’s talent extended to the world of TV as he provided the voice for the complex and menacing character Homelander, played by Antony Starr in The Boys. Rajkummar’s voice in the Hindi dubbed version helped make the series relatable for the Hindi audience.

Ranveer Singh’s energetic and irreverent style fit perfectly in the Hindi version of this R-rated superhero film. Ranveer has lent his voice to Ryan Reynolds in the Hindi version of the Hollywood film Deadpool 2. The film tells the story of an adult superhero with a twisted sense of humor.

Known for his remarkable stunts and agility, Tiger Shroff added a dash of Indian excitement to Peter Parker’s web-swinging adventures. Tiger Shroff is loved by his young fans, and the War actor has lent his voice for the character of Spider-Man in the Marvel film franchise, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Varun Dhawan in Captain America: Civil War

Varun Dhawan stepped into Captain America: Civil War, providing the Hindi voice for Chris Evans, who plays for Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in the Hindi version.
