India Association of Long Island celebrates India’s 76th Republic Day in Hicksville, NY

The India Association of Long Island (IALI) celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day January 26th at the IALI Center in Hicksville, NY. The celebration brought together over 65 members and guests “to honor India’s rich democratic heritage and shared cultural values,” a press release from IALI said.

The Indian flag was unfurled as the Indian and US national anthems were sung. President of IALI Pradeep Tandon delivered a speech to the gathering. “This day is a powerful reminder of the courage, vision, and sacrifices of our leaders and freedom fighters who laid the foundation of the world’s largest democracy. It connects us to our roots and reaffirms our shared love for India, uniting us as one community. Let us honor their legacy by upholding the values of peace, inclusivity, and service to society,” Tandon is quoted saying.

The Chief Guest at the event was Town Clerk of the Town of North Hempstead, Ragini Srivastava. She reflected on the values of India’s Constitution and the significance of Republic Day as a celebration of India’s unity in diversity. She unfurled the Indian flag and presented citations to following individuals for their “outstanding” contributions:

Sampurna Jain – Former IALI President (2005), recognized for her philanthropic contributions and inspiring leadership.

Sanjiv Chand – Entrepreneur and philanthropist, honored for his business acumen and commitment to social betterment.

Dr. Veena Garyali – Physician and community leader, acknowledged for her contributions to medicine and community service.

Pandit Krishna P. Dixit – Head Priest, Hindu Center, Flushing, NY, lauded for his spiritual guidance and dedication to cultural harmony in the Indian Community.

Pandit Madan Kumar Jha – Head Priest, AsaMai Temple, Hicksville, NY, recognized for his unwavering commitment to spiritual and cultural enrichment of Indian Community.

Special Guest, India’s Consul (Community Affairs) commended IALI for helping preserve India’s heritage and fostering unity within the community.

Human Rights Commissioner Dr. Bobby Kumar Kalotee paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters, and stressed “the vital responsibility” of the Indian diaspora to honor India’s legacy by fostering unity and engaging in acts of service.

Other speakers included Jasbir Jay Singh, Chief Editor of Hum Hindustani, and all the past Presidents of IALI.

The celebration included a patriotic dance performance by Kaavya Ramani on “Maa Tujhe Salaam” and patriotic songs by IALI members. The program’s main organizers included Vice President Sushil Khanna, Executive Council Member-at-large Sushma Kaushik, along with Rachna Shahdadpuri, Women’s Forum Chair, and Vandana Kumar, Sangeet Forum Chair.

Attendees enjoyed snacks and lunch at the event. Executive Council Member-at-Large and Building In-Charge Kishore Malik took some IALI members on a tour of the renovated IALI Center which was envisioned and overseen by Tandon.
