Iconic World Trade Center to display animated Indian flag

At 8pm on August 15th, an animated Indian Flag will be displayed on the One World Trade Center podium.

The building’s spire will also be lit up in the Indian Tri color, an Aug. 10, 2022 press release from the South Asian Engagement Foundation said.

This initiative commemorates the world’s largest democracy – India celebrating it’s 75th year of Independence.

As part of the celebrations, other Durst installations at One Bryant Park and One Five One, in mid-town will also be lit up in the tricolor.

The display will continue until 2 am New York City time, on August 15th .

“The community is encouraged to visits and witness this historic moment outside 200 West Street, New York, NY,” SAEF urged. The Foundation will be giving out commemorative pins to mark the celebration.

In September, coinciding with UN General Assembly, SAEF is planning a 3-night display showcasing India’s contribution to the world and the influence of Indian Americans in the U.S.

Also, in October, they will be reprising the All-American Diwali display and fireworks.

“SAEF’s mission is to bring more awareness and exposure to the rich and diverse culture of Indian American community in the United States,” the organization said.

South Asian Engagement Foundation (SAEF) is a registered 501c 3 Non-profit organization based in New Jersey. Its mission is “to increase leadership potential in Indian American communities by providing incentives using educational initiatives and civic engagements.”

Amongst its initiatives, SAEF supports programs like the South Asian Spelling Bee and the Cricket Bee.
