The best part of this trailer was not the wackiness of this romantic comedy but its last frame that nails it and says, “Stree aur Purush dono dekho!”, a cleverly designed double-meaning line that asks you to watch this film about girls as well as guys and also hints that it is not in competition with the co-release horror comedy, Stree 2, and wants the world to watch both! The films are out on August 15.

The trailer launch of Khel Khel Mein, co-produced by T-Series with Wakaoo Films and written and directed by Mudassar Aziz, was marked by witticisms, one-liners and undiluted fun and games—literally. Because the film’s story revolves around what happens due to the mobilephone, the filmmakers asked five media-persons, whose names were chosen from a lucky draw, to unlock their handsets. Akshay then read out messages from each one’s WhatsApp. The audience, which included fans, was then asked which three journalists’ messages were “the best” (read revealing and preferably humorous) and each one of the three won an iPhone 13 as a gift!

Akshay hinted that his own phone had a secret code that no one in his family could open and challenged all to reveal their respective passwords when someone asked him to reveal his. Asked by the media if the phone reveal had caused clesh (fights or clashes) within the family, he denied it but simultaneously also said that no one would ever admit to it if such a thing had happened!

He also said, in answer to a query about his recent succession of flops, that he would keep working, adding that someone would have to “shoot me down!” if they wanted him to stop. He narrated an anecdote told to him by his father about a farmer who was nonchalant about both the good and terrible things happening in his family as everything was a part and parcel of work.

While Taapsee was absent, the event was attended by the rest of the cast, including director Mudassar Aziz, producer Ashwin Varde, actors Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Vaani Kapoor, Aditya Seal and new face Pragya Jaiswal. As is the case with T-Series products, the film has songs supplied by a coterie of music makers: Saji Ali, Tanishk Bagchi, Intense, Rochak Kohli, B. Praak, Guru Randhawa, Raj Ranjodh and Jassi Sidhu, but it should be Shankar-Jaikishan who should be leading the roster as their Shikar chartbuster, Parde mein rehne do, has been adapted in the movie.

Not to forget the fact that the film has to live up to the 1975 predecessor with the same title (the hit Khel Khel Mein), and commercially match or surpass the super-hit OMG—Oh My God!, which Akshay made in 2012 with the same producers. But if this trailer is any indication, I am certain that this film will end the season of flops for Akshay Kumar.
