Four Indian-origin students selected for 2025 Rhodes Scholarships

Four Indian-origin students are among the 32 Americans selected as Rhodes Scholars for 2025. These distinguished students—Om Gandhi, Anushka Nair, Aneesh Muppidi, and Ayush Noori—will begin their graduate studies at the University of Oxford in October 2025.

According to a statement from Rhodes Trust, “The 32 Rhodes Scholars chosen from the United States will join an international group of scholars chosen from 25 other jurisdictions, more than 70 countries, around the world, and two global scholars from any country in the world without its own Scholarship.”

Aneesh Muppidi, from Schenectady, New York, is a senior at Harvard University, majoring in computer science and neuroscience. He has contributed to research at Harvard’s Computational Robotics Lab and Computational Cognitive Neuroscience Lab, as well as MIT’s Fiete Lab. At Oxford, he plans to pursue an M.Sc. in Advanced Computer Science alongside a master’s in public policy.

Om Gandhi, from South Barrington, Illinois, is a senior at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is completing a B.A. in Neuroscience and Public Health, along with an M.S. in Bioengineering. His research focuses on developing innovative cancer immunotherapies, with experience at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Childhood Cancer Research and Penn Medicine. At Oxford, he will work towards a D.Phil. in Oncology.

Anushka Nair, a senior from Lake Oswego, Oregon, is pursuing both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science and engineering, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and ethics, with her graduate thesis focusing on how large language models can detect harmful misinformation that may evade human fact-checkers and automated systems. At Oxford, she plans to undertake a D.Phil in Social Data Science.

Ayush Noori, hailing from Bellevue, Washington, is a senior at Harvard University studying for an A.B. and M.Sc. in Computer Science and Neuroscience. His research leverages artificial intelligence to analyze large-scale biomedical data to enhance diagnostic and treatment strategies. He intends to pursue an M.Sc.(R) in Clinical Neurosciences and another in Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics.
