Continuing our series on Hindi cinema celebs whose birthdays fall in a calendar month, here is a look at some big names from April.

Ajay Devgn / April 2

The only superstar of late to deliver two back-to-back hits as well as the only two successful South remakes in a long time (Drishyam 2 and Bholaa), Ajay Devgn has been on the trot now for over 32 years. Besides acting, he has been producer and director, singer, stunt designer, has pioneered CGI all of 25 years ago and also owns the VFX firm NY VFXWaala.

Kapil Sharma / April 2

Arguably the biggest name in humor today, Kapil Sharma is not only the host of the endemically popular The Kapil Sharma Show but has also been an actor on screen. His interviews on his show with the biggest names in showbiz are a riot. As film actor, he has experimented with serious roles as well.

Hariharan / April 3

The singer who is a proven master in Urdu despite being a South Indian, Hariharan is one of our most highly classically-trained artistes as well. His forte also includes non-film ghazals and he is even now called whenever a song demands a nuanced artiste, which is why his songs in Hindi are a rarity now! His best-known Hindi film songs include Mere dushmun mere bhai from Border, for which he won the National award, and I love my India from Pardes. Though mainly a singer now in South Indian films, he has won another National award for his song in the Marathi film, Jogwa in 2009!

Prabhudheva / April 3

The South Indian films’ choreographer and actor moved to Hindi films and struck it rich. His maiden directorials, Wanted and Rowdy Rathore, were big hits and he is  also a director to reckon with now, besides winning acclaim for his work as actor in the ABCD franchise.

The evergreen Jumping Jack whose peak phase lasted from 1967 to 1986 also proved his worth as actor in films like Jeene Ki Raah and Parichay. He turned backdoor producer with the super-hit Humjoli in 1970 and is now the unseen supreme commander of Balaji Telefilms, the frontline banner run by wife Shobha and daughter Ekta Kapoor. This is the company that has made cult serials and several hit films, besides running the OTT platform, ALT Balaji. This after being in the field for 60 years!

Amit Trivedi / April 8

Today’s most prolific composer, Amit Trivedi is the go-to name for most meaty projects today—his recent triumphs include Uunchai and Qala besides the latest web series, Jubilee. Since his debut in 2008, he has scored music for about 70 films.

Jaya Bachchan / April 9

The Guddi of 1971 has grown up ages ago and has no qualms playing the occasional role if worth its salt, like in the forthcoming Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which is said to have a gray shade. Besides being one of the Bachchan family, she is best remembered also for Uphaar, Jawani Diwani, Sholay and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… among the films she has done.

Lara Dutta / April 16

Miss Universe 2000 made a significant debut with Andaaz (2003) and, ironically, has evolved into a remarkable actor after her short-lived peak as a star. Her maiden (and so far, only) production, Chalo Dilli (2011), Singh is Bliing, Azhar and her two web series, Hundred and Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, show her mettle as a bankable actor.

Bindu / April 17

The lady hit the ball out of the park as a vamp, dancer and tyrant and also excelled in the few positive roles she got, like in Abhimaan, Chaitali, Hero and Main Hoon Na. She had seven consecutive nominations only and no awards from Filmfare, but the lady was so much in demand at one time that distributors clamored for her (and Prem Chopra too as a pair with her co-star) irrespective of whoever was the hero of the film!

Arshad Warsi / April 19

Known best for his role as Circuit in the Munna Bhai franchise and in his wacky avatar as a cop in the Golmaal saga, Arshad Warsi has nevertheless shown immense range as actor, for his work also includes the dark web series, Asur.

Boney Kapoor / April 22
The producer of multiple films both in Hindi and down South, Boney Kapoor has staunchly remained one without ever attempting direction for more than four decades now! Brother to Anil Kapoor and father to Janhvi Kapoor, he is also the late Sridevi’s husband and is known to be the man who rejuvenated his late father Surinder Kapoor’s production banner and steered Anil’s early career.

Manoj Bajpayee / April 23

The journey from Satya to The Family Man has been one of long struggle as well as accolades, awards and achievements. As Manoj recently put it, “My career has been built almost entirely on flops!” This b-o. record apart, Manoj has always made it a point to crack the best out of his characters—of which he has done a mind-boggling variety.

Varun Dhawan / April 24

Any setback he has received of late (both Bhediya and Jug Jugg Jeeyo did not recover their investments, and before that came a chain of flops after 2017) has been offset by his being the Chosen One for the Hindi version of Citadel.  His only other forthcoming film is Bawaal, an ambitious thriller directed by Nitesh Dangal Tiwari.

Arijit Singh / April 25

The biggest name among male playback singers after KK, Arijit Singh is also a rage on his shows, which draw humongous crowds. His tally of hit songs is so immense that a paragraph like this will be woefully inadequate. His latest is Tere pyar mein from Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar.
