Federation of Indian Associations, Chicago (Est 1980) Celebrates India’s 75th Republic Day

The Federation of Indian Associations, Chicago, established in 1980, (FIA Chicago (Est. 1980)), celebrated India’s 75th Republic Day Feb. 10, 2024, highlighting the spirit of India’s heritage and hard-won freedom.

The ceremonial lamp-lighting jump-started the festivities which were attended by, among others, the Deputy Consul General of India, Chicago T. D. Bhutia, along with Dr. Sreenivas Reddy, Yes Desai, Sunitha Ji (first name only), Dr. Vijay Prabhakar, Dr. Rashmi Patel, Satish Gabhawala, and Nitin Patel.

The audience was treated to a poignant short film elucidating the significance of India’s Republic Day, followed by a comprehensive review of FIA’s year-long activities aimed at empowering the community, which received resounding applause from all present, the press release said.

A stirring rendition of one of India’s patriotic anthems, “Vande Mataram,” was delivered by Vrinda Pandev.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Dr. Reddy, and Dr. Vijay G. Prabhakar gave speeches highlighting the essence of India’s 75^th Republic Day and the adoption of a Constitution.

Kruti Pandya and Khyati Pandya emceed the event skillfully. Hina Pandya’s Women’s Empowerment Group from Des Plaines, Illinois, gave a captivating performance, showcasing the strength and resilience of women in the Indian American community.

Other distinguished guests included the FIA 1980 Board of Trustees, FIA’s executive leadership team, and over a hundred FIA Members.

Dr. Sreenivas Reddy and Dr. Vijay G. Prabhakar were recognized for their “exemplary community leadership” and dedication.

The celebration culminated in a kaleidoscope of cultural entertainment, featuring patriotic dances and songs, displaying the shared heritage and unity in diversity.

“As FIA 1980 Chicago marches forward into another year of community empowerment and fulfillment, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the needs of our community and upholding the values that define us as a proud Indian diaspora,” FIA CHICAGO (Est. 1980), said.
