“While Baba remains the face of the Aashram, Bhopa operates behind him,” says Chandan Roy Sanyal, who plays Bhopa, as he discusses the power dynamic between the two riveting characters in Amazon MX Player’s Ek Badnaam Aashram Season 3 Part 2. The show that premiered on MX player and had another season, now returns, again for free streaming, exclusively on Amazon MX Player, the new free streaming App.

The highly-anticipated show takes audiences even deeper into the murky world of power, faith and deception. Produced and directed by the National Award-winning filmmaker Prakash Jha, this latest installment intensifies the drama as Baba Nirala’s empire faces its greatest reckoning yet, testing the limits of loyalty and control.

With Bobby Deol returning as the enigmatic Baba Nirala and Chandan Roy Sanyal reprising his iconic role as Bhopa Swami, the series also features a stellar ensemble cast including Aaditi Pohankar, Darshan Kumaar, Vikram Kochhar, Tridha Choudhury, Anupriya Goenka, Rajeev Siddhartha and Esha Gupta in pivotal roles.

Reflecting on his character’s evolution, Chandan goes on, “Right from the start, Bhopa Swami has had to fight for his place— earning his people’s trust while securing his standing within Baba Nirala’s inner circle. But beneath his unwavering loyalty lies a storm of internal conflict, especially when it comes to Pammi. He feels trapped, torn between devotion and love, and as justifying his actions to Baba becomes harder, the distance between them grows. Eventually, this divide drives Bhopa to rise against both Baba Nirala and the Aashram, ultimately taking control. What lies ahead for him remains to be seen.”

Discussing the power dynamics between Baba and Bhopa, Chandan added, “Baba and Bhopa have always been two sides of the same coin– always working in tandem to run the town, the Aashram, and the system itself. While Baba remains the face of the Aashram, Bhopa operates behind him, executing his orders from the shadows. However, as tensions mount, their once-unshakable bond begins to crack. Bhopa fights to hold the Aashram together, but the rift between them turns into an all-out power struggle. The real question now is—will their friendship survive, or will it fall victim to the ultimate battle between heart and mind?”

The series tellingly depicts the dark side of blind faith in self-proclaimed babas in this crime thriller that is also available through its apps on mobile, Amazon’s shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV and Connected TVs.

Bobby, incidentally, has now mastered the villain’s game. He had first played a negative role 25 years ago in Badal, but became popular in the negative category with this series, after which he enjoyed cult popularity with Animal and even Kanguva from the South.
