Edison Board of Education Vice President Mohin K. Patel is challenging incumbent Patrick Diegnan Jr in the Democratic primary for New Jersey State Senate District 18 on June 8, 2021.

The general election will take place on November 2, 2021.

Treasurer of the Edison Democratic Organization and small business owner, Patel, 46 is running to serve the residents of Edison and their interests, according to his profile on Patch.com.

“Our district sees massive amounts of commerce, yet our property taxes are still quite high. We get very little in return for the amount of taxes we pay. In my hometown of Edison, I hardly even had a proper park to take my sons to when they were growing up. The incumbent works for the party and does his best to placate us come election time and I firmly believe that deserves better,” Patel was quoted saying in the profile.

Patel’s priorities include increase state funding and tax fairness; revitalize downtowns and invest in small businesses; and transition to renewable energy while providing jobs.

Correct representation of the people is what matter the most to Patel. He believes that is what sets him apart from other candidates. “I want to see every township thrive; have fantastic businesses with commerce and prosperity. But I will not allow the prosperity of one township to come at the cost of another,” he was quoted saying in the profile.

Patel recently came under fire for anti-Muslim posts on his Facebook page, New Jersey Globe had reported.

He obtained a Bachelors degree in Finance form Rutgers University. Patel lives in Edison with his wife and two sons.
