Disney Junior’s hit series “Mira, Royal Detective’ set to celebrate Diwali

Inspired by the cultures and customs of India, “Mira, Royal Detective” by Disney Junior’s is set in the fictional land of Jalpur and follows the smart, brave and resourceful Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective by the Queen.

In the Diwali special episode, “The Great Diwali Mystery” – Mira must track down the missing oil used to light traditional lamps throughout the town in order to save the Diwali celebration.

This animated series premiered on March 20, 2020 in the U.S. and India and continues to rollout worldwide. It has already been renewed for a season two.

The series features an all-star cast of prominent South Asian actors including: Newcomer Leela Ladnier Mira; Freida Pinto (“Slumdog Millionaire”) as Queen Shanti; Jameela Jamil (“The Good Place”) as Mira’s Auntie Pushpa; Kal Penn (“Sunnyside”) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (“Brittany Runs a Marathon”) as mongooses Mikku and Chikku, respectively; Hannah Simone (“New Girl”) as Pinky, a young girl in Jalpur; and Aasif Mandvi (“Evil”) as Mira’s father, Sahil.

Created for kids age 2-7 and their families, ‘Mira, Royal Detective’ centers on Mira, who, along with her friend Prince Neel, creative cousin Priya, and comical mongoose sidekicks Mikku and Chikku, set out on mystery-solving adventures that highlight critical thinking and encourage deductive reasoning for young viewers, according to press materials released by Disney Junior.

Each episode is comprised of two 11-minute stories that celebrate the cultures and customs of India by incorporating authentic food, fashion, language and art. Reflecting their importance in Indian culture, music and dance play an integral role in “Mira, Royal Detective,” with each episode featuring at least one original song and dance number that showcases the diversity of the culture.

The Diwali episode of the series is currently airing on Disney Channel and Disney Junior and is also available in the DisneyNOW app.
