Diljit Dosanjh joins female-bonding comedy, The Crew

The producers Rhea Kapoor and Ektaa R. Kapoor took the internet by storm by pulling the ultimate casting-coup for their (touted as) “madcap comedy”—The Crew. Starring Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon, stars from three different decades, this comedy of errors and mishaps set in the struggling airline industry has now become one of the most awaited films of this year.

And now actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has been added to the cast, returning to comedy in Hindi cinema after Good Newwz in 2019 (He recently did the serious-themed OTT release, Jogi).

Producer Rhea Kapoor of AKFCN Production gushed about the new addition to her cast. “We are thrilled to have Diljit join the cast, considering his discerning eye for quality projects. This film has always had a special destiny and is unlike any entertainer you have seen before. The cast and I are excited to provide audiences with a memorable cinema experience.”

Directed by Rajesh Krishnan and co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, the film is set to go on floors from end-March 2023.

The story follows three women who work and hustle to move on with life. But as they try to make their way forward, their destinies lead them to some unexpected and unwarranted situations, leading them to get caught in a web of lies.

After their last such successful outing in 2018, Veere Di Wedding, Rhea and Ekta are now collaborating on another female-bonding film. Tabu, who has co-starred with Kareena’s elder sister in a record five films, including the hits Jeet, Saajan Chale Sasural, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Biwi No.1, does her first movie with Kareena as well as with Kriti Sanon.

Female-bonding films seem to be coming in vogue now, as Farhan Akhtar too is filming Jee Le Zaraa with Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt. The genre has been rare in Hindi cinema, rarer when one considers films that have worked, like Pink (2016) with Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang. Dil Aashna Hai (1992) produced and directed by Hema Malini was an early bird here, though the Dimple Kapadia-Amrita Singh-Sonu Valia film bombed.
