Chicago, IL.: Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, representing Illinois’ 9th Congressional District, visited the newly opened AHS Family Health Center, located at 6301 N. Western Avenue in Chicago. This state-of-the-art facility, which began operations in early 2024, provides integrated primary, behavioral, and dental care, along with specialty services. The health center’s capital renovation was funded in part by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.

During her visit, Congresswoman Schakowsky presented the prestigious Community Service Award to Ashraf Ali, honoring his 25 years of dedicated service to AHS Family Health Center and his remarkable 45 years of community service in Chicago.

“Mr. Ali’s commitment to the community and healthcare has never faltered,” said Congresswoman Schakowsky. “I have witnessed his active involvement in the community since I first took office.”

Ali, an accomplished engineer, has had a distinguished career in both the nonprofit and real estate sectors. He was the President of Development Corporation of America in Des Plaines, Illinois, which operates primarily in the sub-dividers and developers’ niche within the real estate industry. His engineering expertise was honed at the internationally renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, where he was part of the team that built the iconic Sears Tower, now known as Willis Tower, as well as other notable architectural landmarks in Chicago.

The contributions of Ali to the Asian community and his involvement in the nonprofit sector have spanned several decades. He is the longest-serving member of the Board of Directors of AHS Family Health Center (AHSFHC) and served as its first Board Chairperson when the Federally Qualified Health Center was established in the early 2000s. He also previously served as the Board Treasurer of AHSFHC.
