Chicagoland real estate professionals hold in-person meeting after pandemic hiatus

The Association of South Asian Real Estate Professionals based in Illinois, held its first in-person meeting following the pandemic hiatus, March 22, 2022.

The two-hour long program was attended by more than 30 professionals from different areas affecting real estate. The theme was making South Asian realtors more profitable and also on enlightening them on crowd-funding and mortgage options.

“Our tomorrow starts today,” Shirin Marvi, president of ASARP is quoted saying in a press release. After several months of hibernation in zoom meetings due to COVID restrictions, ASARP held its first in-person meeting in Des Plaines, marking  the beginning of new era in the South Asian real estate profession, organizers said.

The organization is a not-for profit association “to reaffirm a commitment to provide the leadership the South Asian community requires in order to achieve the cherished objectives of property ownership in and outside US,” the press release said.

T R Vishwanathan, director of the ASARP, who has to his credit more than 2,500 residential closings, explained the intricacies of business to young professionals. Pradeep B Shukla, founder- president elaborated how a professional working in the commercial arena could pool together funds for larger projects, through Crowd Funding. He highlighted details of proper management and also explained thine lines that segregate normal funding from stock market regulations. His detailed presentation outlined ‘Fiduciary duties, Risk and Rewards, Equity Structures and brief outlines of Security laws and IRS guidelines’ on raising funds through crowd funding.

The event was sponsored by Red Door Mortgage Home Loans. Greg Gatto and Abid Hasani from the mortgage company elaborated on mortgage intricacies and explained the different options available to buyers of residential properties. Director Raj Patel helped coordinate the event.

Amongst the special guests was Vice President of Professionalism and Career Development Kate Sax.

Attending directors and guests included Bhailal Patel, Vithal Patel, Raj Patel, Kanti Patel, Al Haroon Hussain, T Paul Chawla, Harsha Shukla, Sunita Kakarlapudi, Vasanti Bhatt, Bimal and Malti Pandhi, Madhu and Dipti Dave and attorney Nivav Patel.

ASARP plans to hold a series of events through the year, with an annual gala in November. These events will feature different topics including crypto currencies, Vastu Shastra (Indian version of Feng-sui), apart from professional, legal and economic updates relevant to the industry.  Also, ASARP has embarked upon small program of “Taste of South Asia” and accordingly South Indian cuisine was offered at the event, organized by Sunita Kakarlapudi of Sohum Realty. Other programs will feature other cuisines.
