Chicago Celebrates World Hindi Day 2025 with Enthusiasm

Chicago, February 1, 2025 – The Consulate General of India in Chicago, in collaboration with the Hindi Samanvay Samiti, hosted a vibrant event to mark World Hindi Day 2025. The celebration brought together Hindi scholars, educators, organizations, students, parents, and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) dedicated to promoting the Hindi language in the Midwest region.

The program emphasized ongoing initiatives to integrate Hindi into school and university curricula across Chicago and neighboring states. Consul General Somnath Ghosh inaugurated the event, commending the tireless efforts of Hindi faculty at various academic institutions. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of organizations such as the Hindi Samanvay Samiti, the International Hindi Committee-Indiana Chapter, Balodyan, the Hindi Club of Illinois, Hindi US-St. Louis Chapter, Hindi School of Wisconsin, Roots to Hindi, Sundar Kaand Parivar, Brahmcharya Hindi Vedic School, and Bal Vihar-Chicago in fostering Hindi learning. Additionally, he highlighted the role of Mandi Theatre, Ekjut Theatre, and Dramatech in promoting the language through theatrical performances.

A distinguished panel of speakers shed light on various aspects of Hindi promotion. Dr. Mithilesh Mishra, Director of Hindi and South Asian Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, delivered the keynote address on “Artificial Intelligence for Hindi Teachers: A Modern Medium to Effectively Promote Hindi.” Dr. Syed Ekhteyar Ali from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, shared his experiences in a talk titled “Promotion of Hindi at the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin, USA: My Experience with Students.” Meanwhile, Mr. Rakesh Malhotra, Nodal Officer of the Hindi Coordination Committee, provided insights into “Promotion and Spread of Hindi in the United States: Analysis of Opportunities and Challenges.”

The event also featured lively performances by schoolchildren from Chicago, Indiana, and surrounding regions. Their recitations of Hindi poetry, songs, and theatrical pieces celebrating Indian culture and literature captivated the audience, reinforcing the importance of preserving and promoting the language among younger generations.

World Hindi Day 2025 in Chicago successfully underscored the global significance of Hindi and the collaborative efforts to sustain and expand its presence in the United States.
