The 21-year old South Asian American Policy & Research Institute, (saapri.org) announced it will hold a fundraiser Oct. 28, 2022, to celebrate its two decades of service to the community.

The event will take place at Urban Convene Chicago with the goal of raising $20,000 and the event ticket includes access to SAAPRI’s “Memories and Milestones” exhibit – a pictorial and narrative history of the South Asian immigrant experience in Illinois between 1945 and 1965.

“As a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to serving South Asian Americans in Illinois, we have advocated for equitable and sustainable policy recommendations since 2001,” SAAPRI said in an Oct. 10 press release, adding that its research and collaboration with partners have allowed it to respond to community issues and voice them to public officials.

“It is our outreach work that has led to data-driven solutions and cross-racial coalitions in our community,” the organization said.

The fundraiser will also touch on the history of South Asian immigration to Illinois in the pre-civil rights era and how South Asians were affected by issues of race, gender, and homeland politics.
