Birth centenary of famous Telugu leader and film star, NTR, celebrated in Illinois

The GSA Global Eye Magazine and the Indian American Business Coalition (IABC) USA hosted the Birth Centenary of the legendary Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, fondly known as NTR, June 4, 2023, at Naren Patel Auditorium in Hillside, IL.

“The Birth Centenary Celebrations of NTR was a tribute to his unparalleled legacy as an actor, filmmaker, and political leader, who left an indelible mark on the Telugu film industry and the hearts of millions of his fans,” organizers said in a press release.

As part of this grand event, Global Eye and IABC honored 15 Telugu community leaders with the prestigious NTR Centenary Awards, in recognition of “their outstanding contributions and leadership roles in their respective fields.”

Ambassador Yeah Samake, Co-Founder of Empower Mali from the Republic of Mali, was the Chief Guest. Congressman Jonathan Jackson of the 1st Congressional District of Illinois, was the Special Guest of Honor.

In recognition of his remarkable achievements, Global Eye and IABC presented the Telugu Thespian Film Director C.S. Rao Award to Dr. Vemuri Murthy, MD. Dr. Murthy is a distinguished Chicago Physician and an Indo-US Resuscitation Medicine Expert, the press release said, adding, “His exceptional contributions to the medical field and his passion for cinema have made him a truly deserving recipient of this prestigious award.”

The Legend NTR’s Birth Centenary Awardees include Viswanatham Susarla, MD, Hema Kanuru, Johnson Sukka, Krishna Mushyam, Dr. Meher Medavaram, Dr. Krish Revuluri, Jagadish Kanuru,  Ratnam Chitturi, Sujatha Appalaneni, Chandini Duvvuri, Uma Katiki, Srini Pedamallu, Hanu Cherukuri, Venkata Rama Rao Chanamolu,  Bhima Reddy, and Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli.

The organizing committee for the event included Dr. Vijay G. Prabhakar, president of GSA Global Eye & IABC; Dr. Vasavi Chakka, executive director of IABC; Shree Gurusamy, chief community officer of Global Eye Magazine; Manne Lingaiah, Lt. Governor of AMEC; Naveen Karna, CIO of Global Eye Magazine; Kathy Thorat, hospitality chair; Seeta Bala, VP of AMEC; Shivam Viswanathan, North America Sales & Advertising executive; Alli Dhanaraj, Women’s Chair of AMEC, among others.

Local Chicagoland singers performed a selection of songs which were a trip down memory lane, showcasing some of the finest movies of NTR. Event concluded with vote of thanks given by Dr. Zenobia Sowell, AMEC Governor.
