Bipasha Basu announces pregnancy on social media

Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover announced that they are expecting their first child on August 16.

The couple first met on the sets of their 2015 horror film, Alone, and got hitched after a year of dating in April 2016. The actress has now declared that she was not taking up any new assignments because she wanted a baby.

In an exclusive to Hindustan Times, the Raaz-Jism actress stated that the plan was definitely to focus on the baby in life and she was not taking up any kind of work, because she wanted to have a baby, then start working immediately again. “It took me a little time. In 2020, we completely dropped the idea because we didn’t know where the world was going, so for one year, we took a break from trying. In 2021,  we decided to try again, and God has been kind, we conceived,” she said.

Recalling it was a very emotional day when she first got to know about the pregnancy, Bipasha remembered how Karan and she ran to her mother’s house, as the latter was the first person Bipasha wanted to inform the moment when she found out when she was pregnant. “I always had faith we will have a baby, and it happened. I am more than grateful for this.” she said.

She added, “When you find a partner late in life and settle down late, as a person you are extremely mature and responsible and know when exactly you will be responsible enough to give birth to another life.”

The pregnancy announcement was made by the couple on their social media handles. Dressed in white shirts, the parents-to-be looked a dream in their photo-shoot. Karan is seen lovingly kissing Bipasha’s baby bump in the picture.

Bipasha also shared a very cute video in which she has donned a black jumpsuit and captioned it: “Look! #lovemybabybump #pregnantandconfident #lovemybody #loveyourself.”  Karan replied, “Yeah look!!!! My baby in your belly!”  Over 650,000 people have so far liked their posts and the video.

Karan and Bipasha also wrote, “A new time, a new phase, a new light adds another unique shade to our prism of life. Making us a little more whole than we used to be. We began this life individually and then we met each other and from then we were two. Too much love for only two, seemed a little unfair for us to see…so soon, we who once were two will now become three. A creation manifested by our love, our baby will join us soon and add to our glee. Thank you all, for your unconditional love, your prayers and good wishes as they are and will always be a part of us. Thank you for being a part of our lives and manifesting with us another beautiful life, our baby. Durga Durga.”

The actress is reportedly in her fifth month, and so will deliver by year-end, though no date has been announced.

About the bodily changes she is going through, the actor feels that it’s all about loving your body no matter what, at all times. One of the fittest actors today, she told the media, “This is another stage I am going through in my life. A woman’s body changes at this point. When I thought about pregnancy, I never really thought my body is going to change so much. Ever since I started this journey, there have been a lot of changes, and I am absolutely comfortable with everything.”

For the record, as per what the actress had told me a decade into her career at the time of Raaz 3, “I lay great premium on fitness, not just looking fit but being strong physically.” She had then come out also with fitness DVDs.

Bipasha never wanted to be an actress. Producer Vijay Galani saw her on the ramp in a Rohit Bal show and offered her Ajnabee. When she heard the narration, she found it completely different from the normal films, and thought that she would do it. “They (the media) wrote a lot then about my being the second lead to Kareena Kapoor (Khan), and of my being the vamp or moll. But the industry received me with open arms and the kind of complete warmth that I had never expected. Neither did I dream of the awards that I got for Best Negative Performance as well as Best Newcomer. By the time of Raaz I had decided that I wanted to go on.”

Bipasha was last seen in the 2020 web series, Dangerous, again opposite her husband. And but for No Entry opposite Salman Khan and two other heroes, Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan, the actress made it big despite never working with Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan or Hrithik Roshan. Raaz (the biggest hit of 2022), Jism, No Entry (the top hit of 2005 in the pivotal lead), Phir Hera Pheri, Dhoom:2 (the biggest hit of 2006), Race and Race 2 have been her major hits.
