Association of Indians in America-Illinois, celebrates 78th Independence Day of India

On August 12, 2024 Association of Indians in America IL- Chapter celebrated India’s Independence at Daley Plaza downtown.

High profile attendees included T.D. Bhutia, the Deputy Consul General of India in Chicago; Maria Pappas the Treasurer of Cook County, a press release from Asian Media USA said.  The crowd included AIA committee members and the community at large, estimated at around 150 people.

Organizers, special guest, performers and others at the August 12, 2024, celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day.

National anthems and patriotic songs were sung by young Chicago-based artist Khushi Jain. Classical dance by Rashika Bendekar, Kabita Dey and a boisterous Punjabi dance by Madhu Arya and team added to the festive event.

Treasurer Pappas, after being introduced by Hina Trivedi, congratulated the Indian community for its contributions and lifestyle, and praised the AIA for what it has done of Chicagoland.

DCG  T.D Bhutia in his address spoke about the contribution of of the community to US-India friendship, including the students from India in the US.

Others who addressed the gathering were AIA Chairman Salil Mishra, President Lucy Pandey spoke, and the vote of thanks was given by Vice President Nilabh Dubey and National Vice President Santosh Pandey. The Master of ceremonies was Shabana Rehman. Kimico Mehta’s outreach to the community about the importance of voting during the event was appreciated by AIA.
