NAPERVILLE, IL – April 1, 2025 – In a historic victory, Ashfaq Syed has been elected to the Naperville City Council, making history as the first Indian American to serve in this role. His election signifies a step forward in inclusive leadership and reflects a broad community consensus on the need for proactive and progressive governance.
Syed’s grassroots campaign mobilized hundreds of residents, dozens of dedicated volunteers, and a diverse coalition of supporters who shared his vision for a thriving, inclusive Naperville. His platform centered on sustainable development, environmental responsibility, government transparency, economic resilience, and strengthening public safety and city services.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust the people of Naperville have placed in me,” Syed said on election night. “This victory belongs to all of us—every volunteer who knocked on doors, every supporter who donated, every resident who believed in the promise of a city that works for everyone.”
A well-known community leader, Syed currently serves as President of the Naperville Public Library Board and has long been an advocate for local nonprofits such as Loaves & Fishes and 360 Youth Services. His track record of results-driven leadership and civic engagement resonated strongly with voters across Naperville.
“This campaign was about building a Naperville that honors its values and embraces its future. I’m eager to get to work with my colleagues on the Council to implement our shared vision—and to listen, engage, and lead with integrity,” Syed stated.
