NEW YORK – “America’s Smartest Family,” a Zee TV original production which is a mashup of “Family Feud” and “Jeopardy”, has been attracting large audience numbers all season.

The show is in its eighth episode and is creeping towards the semi-finals, poising to become the number one show in its time slot and category.

Hosted by 23-year-old YouTube sensation Zaid Ali, the show pits families against families in a unique quiz format which includes a diverse set of categories and a buzzer.

Each episode features five challenging in-studio question rounds that test the pre-screened contestants on their teamwork and speed when answering them, leading to a winner.

The first round consists of four questions and the family gets to chose one of five categories: science, math, arts, history and geography.

During the first round, 100 points are awarded for every correct answer and there are no deductions for wrong answers until the third and fourth rounds when a mistake will cost 100 points.

As the game progresses, questions become increasingly difficult and each question is worth 200 points by the third and fourth rounds.

During the fifth and final rounds, the game takes a turn when Ali spices things up by offering clues and if the family can answer the question without the clue then they are awarded a maximum of 1,000 points.

But if the family decides to use the clues then each one would cost them 200 points and scores can total up to anywhere between -2,400 to 5,500 at the end of five rounds.

The show has been conceptualized as a Zee Originals property and is produced by Touchdown Productions.

“We are very happy with the result of this first ever endeavor and look forward to producing multiple seasons of the show. The effort of the crew, director and channel team was a winning combination,” Rahul Walia, Executive Producer and CEO of Touchdown Productions, said in a press release.

“I’m very happy with the outcome of the show whether it is on the production end, or the sponsorship end. With this we can easily allude to Zee TV’s initiative of being the first movers in the market. I am looking forward to learning who the winning family turns out to be,” said Sameer Targe, Head of Americas for Zee TV.

“America’s Smartest Family” airs every Saturday at 9:00 p.m. EST; and 9:30 p.m. PST, on ZEE TV.
