The American India Foundation (AIF), a leading non-governmental organization in the United States, in its phase 2 of COVID-19 response to India is sending portable hospital beds wherever they are needed the most.

The surge in COVID-19 cases has resulted in an acute shortage of health infrastructure in India, noted AIF. The government, through the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA), is leading the effort to identify cities and hospitals where additional portable beds need to be deployed, it added in a press release..

The AIF sees portable beds that can be added to existing health facilities as a short and medium-term solution to meet shortages in beds for COVID-19 patients.

In this phase, AIF said it is conducting site surveys across India, to scope out locations for several 50 to 100 portable bed clusters that will be deployed and constructed in the next month.

The organization surveyed six sites across five states, inching closer towards their goal of constructing 2,500 such units.
