Alia Bhatt rewinds to what 2022 meant to her

She’s had a magical, all-triumphant year even when the industry went through a dull phase: Alia Bhatt started 2022 with the hit Gangubai Kathiawadi in the title-role, and was heavily appreciated for her performance. Then she had a fair-sized cameo in RRR. On April 14, she married her sweetheart, Ranbir Kapoor.

Then came the release of her first film with him—Brahmastra: Part One—Shiva, which defied all detractors and the boycott brigade to become the highest Hindi grosser of 2022. This was followed by Alia’s maiden production, Darlings, which released on Netflix to wide acclaim. She had signed her first Hollywood film, Heart of Stone, also featuring Gal Gadot, in January, and she commenced shooting—among other things, doing action too!—for it during her pregnancy.

And on November 6, Alia became a mother to Raha Kapoor.

It was an all-successful, milestone year for Alia 10 years after she started out as a leading lady, and the actress is highly satisfied and thrilled with how things went. Quite naturally, she looks forward with glee to 2023 with her two releases—Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and Jee Le Zara, the latter a female-bonding movie with Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif.

The effervescent leading lady gave a lot of quotable quotes on what 2022 meant to her in a candid interview with the Mumbai tabloid, Bombay Times. Here are selected ones:

And this is the same woman who was categorized as being sans grey matter by a section of the media some years ago, who thus termed her as “Duh!”. But then, Alia, as an actress too, has come a long way. And Highway, 2 States, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Dear Zindagi, Gully Boy and Raazi are all proofs of this. And she is set out a great 2023 as the reigning Numero Uno star of Hindi cinema.
