The much talked-about folk horror film, Tumbbad, is receiving an overwhelming response from the audience ever since it re-released in theatres. Expressing his gratitude over the film’s successful theatrical re-run, producer Aanand L. Rai said that the response to the film’s re-release is proof that “Every story get its share of love”. He recalled that when the film made it to the theatres for the first time in 2018, he knew that the audiences will love it, but he regretted that the film did not get the kind of reception he had expected. However, things changed when the Sohum Shah starrer released in theatres for the second time. The film, which had earned a lifetime nett collection of about Rs. 13 crore then, has already made more than Rs. 7.5 crore on re-release in the last 4 days alone.

“There was a slight phase where we felt that we had made fewer films in the last twelve or eighteen months, so we thought this was a very correct opportunity to bring Tumbbad back. And the response is very overwhelming and lovely,” said Rai, while revealing the reason behind the decision to re-release the film.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, Tumbbad had emerged as a critical success and had earned eight nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards. The makers have now also announced the sequel to the folk-horror film.

Currently, Rai is gearing up for his upcoming releases. The filmmaker is teaming up with Dhanush again after Raanjhanaa for a new film titled Tere Ishk Mein. The film’s shoot is slated to commence from January 2025. He also has Nakhrewaalii in the pipeline, which will see debutants Pragati Srivastava and Ansh Duggal sharing screen space.
